Zootopia gets a lot of credit for the city design and the politics, and not enough for how much of its charm is character work. This ranking sorts the cast by how much each one carries the film's tone. Nick Wilde leads because the con-man-with-a-conscience arc is the spine of the story, and Jason Bateman's voice work sells every smug aside and every quiet flinch. Judy Hopps gets read as the straight man, which sells her short. Her stubbornness drives the plot, and the press conference scene shows she is allowed to be wrong, which is rare for a Disney lead. Finnick is in the top tier on a per-second basis. Twelve minutes of screen time, ten of the best laughs in the film. Flash is here for the joke that should not survive a rewatch and absolutely does. Clawhauser is the warm centre of the precinct and gets unfairly demoted in most rankings. The deeper picks reward the world-building extras: Mr. Big, Bellwether, Yax, Gideon Grey. Vote for the character whose scene you still quote, not the one with the most poster space. Disney casts shift in popularity with every rewatch, and Zootopia rewards rewatches more than most.
